From the Ashes

Alright. One minor victory for me anyway. I've managed to piece together the smoldering remains of my blog at http://www.iguanadons.net after almost a full week of backdating posts. I tossed in a couple of new entries during the effort since I wanted to get them down while they were fresh in my mind.

Don't ever let this happen to you folks. MAKE BACKUPS. Automate the process if you're lazy, like me, and force yourself to keep up on it. Complacency is the devil.

  4. Yeah, it amazed me that Google had it all too. I lost one post I can't seem to remember, as well as probably 60 comments. 45 or so from a single post Google never came back to revisit. But I'm told one of the regular readers cached it with Google Desktop, so I'm hoping to get those back soon too.

  5. That's very cool.. too bad that you lost the ones you did, but still pretty impressive how many you were able to recover at all, even better if you can still recover those extra 45 comments too. Unfortunately, even though I've still got probably almsot everything that ever got posted to there in my RSS reader, it's only got the first so many characters of each post/comment or else I'd be able to help you with those still missing posts/comments too. :(

  7. Just as a quick FYI - not like anyone reads old blog entries anyway - I did manage to recover all 44 comments from the General Petraeus topic from the MSN Search cache. Somewhere along the way one post was lost to the winds, I'm not sure which one since nobody's cache had any gaps.

    Glad people like the site even though *cough*they don't comment*cough* and hopefully my biting dark sarcasm isn't scaring anyone too much :P
