That is a good idea I'll start working on it.
Can we have an additional setting on the Account Settings page to set our time zone? I'm really not living in Mountain Standard Time zone...
and finally they've released a package that isn't in beta time for me to crank out the update :)
Ah, now that makes even more sense.
They announced another release set for this week so I just decided to hold off.
no worries, I just hadn't realized that you didn't finish the upgrade yet. *L*
Moving has slowed me down :)
Entirely understandable, I was just thinking that you'd announced that you'd done that a few weeks ago and were now saying that it was time for another majot site upgrade already. My misunderstanding. :)
Yeah Elgg has been updated but adding in all the changes I've made make it difficult to upgrade. But, the security fixes and performance updates make it worthwhile.
A new version? Of the site's software in general?
It is on the way. I'll be rolling out a new version in the coming weeks. Once I get moved I'll have the new one up.
Would love to see a bookmark or links section so we could share our favorite or frequently used links with others. If this exists and I'm missing it, please disregard :P
Needs to be a way of editing blog comments. I just made a post and noticed that I have a few typos/bad-grammar problems covered in it.
Integrating it into the communities could work out well. Maybe add in some new fields if it is a MUD, so it's easier to input and display things like connection information.
An off topic category has been added :) I will think about the mud list maybe being able to flag a community as a mud would and then make those listable and searchable?
A spider is still no substitute to group maintained list, if this were to happen it would greatly help out, by people not only seeing what MUDs are available, but seeing ones that are actually maintained and has a loyal pbase, and a way for them to access those people. A spider saying a MUD is running can not really compare to a bunch of people saying 'A good MUD is here! Play me!' or 'I own this MUD, yes, it is active'.
I think that what you're seeing is the result of TMC having a delay on the muds it declares dead. I know at least once in the past TMC's spider declared that my mud was dead due to a connectivity issue and I managed to get it resolved before my mud's listing was completely wiped from TMC, since then I believe that Icculus extended the delay again to help others avoid that sort of issue too.
Yes, it does, though I do notice that MUDs it declares to be alive are in fact dead. The idea is for a personalized list maintained within this network. I was merely providing some implementation details as a gentle nudge.
Doesn't TMC already do something along those lines with their spider, Kevin?
In reference to the thread, "The dying out of MUDs," maybe integrate a smaller, more personalized TMC setup into the site. From what I've gathered, people here are either running their own MUD or have one that they always frequent. With that in mind, allow people to either create a MUD's description, connection information, etc., from their profile to add to the global list of MUDs, or allow them to choose their affiliation with a MUD from the list. I can see this as a benefit for advertising active servers and allowing administrators (assuming they are a member here as well) to see who else is a client.
It wouldn't be that hard to set up a cron'd perl script that would pull a list of MUDs from a database, try to connect, and update that database on whether or not the connection succeeded, determining if the server is actually alive. Add in timestamps to the attempts to gauge how long a server was dead (or even to show uptime) and possible notification to the person that added the MUD into the list that there is a problem.
I could see something like this really adding to the overall experience of the site, and make another connection between people here and their MUDs. It would also allow passers-by to get a list of actively maintained and run servers with connections to real people, something that isn't exactly prevalent within TMC.
You need to add a Off Topic section for the forums. Not sure if your wanting the site to stay on topic or not, but a place for semi-random post would be nice.
